Upper Fields at Night

This is a picture of the upper fields at night. This picture was taken during an IFC soccer game on a weekday night. Sports are played throughout the year in the evening, and can go as late as midnight. For intramural games, like these referees are provided by Cal Poly.

Some intramural sports are taken pretty seriously at Cal Poly. The players are responsible for preparing themselves before the game and first aid is available at every sporting event in case of an injury.

When interviewing Daniel Holmes, an intramural and IFC soccer player, he said, "I love the fields, this is one of the only places where I can get out and play". He generally expressed satisfaction and happiness with the upper and lower facilities. When asking him about drawbacks, he stated that parking needs a better system. He said it didn't make sense that somebody should have to pay $2.50 to go play a soccer game, on top of the game fees. He also complained about the fact that the police patrol the lot and many student receive parking tickets each night. When analyzing this situation, it would make sense to give members of intramural teams passes for the season when they pay for their registration fees. Another alternative would be to simply make parking free in the dirt lot just before the upper fields. By ticketing and charging for passes, students are turned off by the whole experience. Fewer students are willing to participate, and the entire intramural program is devalued.
