After a cow is impregnated she is considered a dry cow. She is placed in the maternity pen and kept under close supervision. To ensure proper nutrition the dry cows receive a different mix ration that contains a higher ratio of alfalfa hay. For full ratios of the dry cow ration mix, refer to table below.
