Wild Turkey

Meleagris gallopavo, Meleagrididae

The Wild Turkey's body is dark with some iridescence and flight feathers barred with white. The Wattle is red, breast tuft black, and the legs are spurred. The turkey's bare skin is blue and pink. The tail, uppertail coverts, and lower rump feathers are tipped with off-white. Females are 37 inches of duller coloration overall and lacking the breast tuft. Wild turkeys reside year-round and are found primarily in open riparian woodlands. They are omnivorous.
