The new Construction Management building is set to be completed by the Summer of 2008.
The 58,000-square-foot center including lecture space, labs, classrooms and office space will be located on the former Air Conditioning Building site. Cal Poly recieved money from the government after Proposition 55 was passed. $28.5 million was given for construction money for the new building which will house the University's architecture and construction management programs, part of Cal Poly's nationally-recognized College of Architecture and Environmental Design. To date, more than $5 million of private support, critical to build the caliber of spaces needed, has been pledged or received to supplement money from the state bond. Generous support from friends in the industry and alumni have made this project possible. While there are still a few major spaces in the Center awaiting sponsorship, the Construction Management Department now has moved into the alumni sponsorship phase of the campaign which will provide the furnishings, equipment, and program support needed to create state-of-the-art instructional spaces. The CM Depertment looks forward to a sustained partnership with everybody envolved.*
As should be expected from one of the nations top construction management programs, the new Construction Management building has many features to promote sustainability and energy conservation. In accordance with the new CSU construction regulations, the new building will be built under stricter conservation regulations. One example of such regulations is found in the lighting system. In order to reduce energy usage, an energy efficient lighting system will be incorporated, along with skylights, to take advantage of natural light. Larger windows will be utilized for more natural light, as well as allowing for less building materials. Materials regulations are more strict, so are the regulations for the heating and cooling systems. With all the donations from the various companies, this new building is on track to be one of the most technologically advanced buildings on campus.
