The Air Conditioning building was built prior to 1958 and was orginally constructed for the Air Conditioning and refrigeration Department (ACaR). The ACaR department was founded in 1937 to help the advancement of air conditioning and refridgeration technology as well as produce high quality ACaR engineers and technitions. In 1968 the ACaR department changed its name to Environmental Engineering department. Later, in 1983 the Environmental Engineering department was dissolved with the ACaR major being incorporated into Mechanical Engineering . In 1995 the concentration was dropped and is now solely a 12 unit emphasis area for Mechanical Engineers. Oddly enough the Air Conditioning building had no air conditioning, aside from a few wall units in faculty offices.
