Gardener Spotlight: Henry Hilgert
A Cal Poly graduate in Horticulture, Henry has been the gardener
of this area for 25 years. His gardens have not only created a
visual landscape for west campus, but have also provided a backdrop
for the memories of many Cal Poly students, from sunbathing with
friends on the first day of summer to finding a quiet place to
catch up on sleep in between classes. He wants his gardens to
be a learning tool for students and a resource for community members
who want to plant gardens of their own. Henry has won three Obispo
Beautiful awards from the city of San Luis Obispo for his work
on the Cal Poly campus.
