White Tailed Kite

Physical Description: Size: 38-41 cm, Wing span: 100 cm, mostly white body with distinct black patch on shoulder, white tail and grayish back.

Habitat: Open country and farmlands with scattered trees or fencerows; mesquite grasslands. Resident in interior California, Arizona and Texas.

Diet: Feeds primarilly on insects and some small rodents. Hunts by hovering in the air over grassland, or "kiting."
