Cal Poly Birds

Why are birds important? Birds represent extraordinary diversification. They are active members of their environments helping to consume insects, distribute seeds, and probably have other unknown importances. Birds and humans are both interwoven into the same ecological network. The extent of the effects of birds humans is unknown. For this reason we should attempt to gain understanding about our avian neighbors. Through the study of birds we can help develop and appreciation for how all life is woven together and interdependant.

Students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Cal Poly Land are privileged with the access to a landscape of varied habitat which supports numerous resident and migratory bird species.

  • Birds: Any of the class Aves of warm-blooded, egg-laying, feathered vertebrates with forelimbs modified to form wings.
  • Bird Watching: Observing and identifying birds in their natural surroundings.
