Physical Description: Size: 15-16 cm, Wing span: 21-24 cm. Male has white crown with black stripes on either side. White supercilliary. Wings brown with gray breast and belly.

Habitat: Resident populations inhabit Poly Canyon as well as migratory populations. Migratory populations breed in northern Canada and Alaska. Winters across the U.S.

Diet: Specializes on seeds foraged from the ground. Will feed on insects when resources are abundant.
