Physical Description: Size: 41-63 cm, Wing span: 91-111 cm, dark wings with light barring, barred tail, rusty shoulders and breast with slight barring on breast. No sexually dimorphism in plumage.

Habitat: Dense riverside and foothill woodlands. Resident along coastal California.

Diet: Will pray on small reptiles, amphibians, small rodents and insects. Hunts by watching from a perch before swooping down on prey.
