Physical Description: Size: 9-10 cm. Adult male has yellow breast and belly, dark crown, olive back. Wings are darker with white patch. Female is duller in color and olive on the back with gray rump.

Habitat: Woodland and brushy areas. Breeds from Oregon down through Central America and in parts of South America. Northern populations migrate southward in winter.

Diet: Specialize on seeds.
