Physical Description: Size: 15-18 cm. Brown breast, dark back and wings. Pale belly and rump. Adult male and femal have gold crown. Adult male has black stripes on either side of gold grown. Conical Bill.

Habitat: Found in coniferous forests and coastal scrub brush. Breeds from Pacific side of Canada to Alaska. Winters from British Columbia down to Baja California.

Diet: Feeds primarilly seeds.
