Physical Description: Size: 18-22 cm. Adult male has dark crown, dark eye stripe, dark throat and wings. Head, breast and belly bright oarnge. White patch on wings. Female has no black throat patch, yellow head and underside, and two white wingbars.

Habitat: Found in deciduous and riparian forests such as Brizziolari Creek in Poly Canyon. Breeding range extends from southern British Columbia to Southern California. Winters in tropics.

Diet: Feeds on insects, nectar and fruit.
