Physical Description: Size: 22-31 cm, Wing span: 51-61 cm, male has lightly spotted breast, blue-gray wings. Female has rusty wings. Both sexes have rusty back and tail and dark malar stripes.

Habitat: Found in open lands. Breeds in the northern U.S., through Canada and into Alaska. Winters in central America. Populations occur in South America as well.

Diet: Feeds on small birds, insects and rodents. Catches prey on ground rather than in air like most other falcons.
