Flora and Fauna

A few invertibrates visible from underneath the pier.

One of the most incredible resources that Cal Poly's pier at Avila has to offer is the environment surrounding it. Not only are there a series of bird species that have made the pier their home but there are numerous marine organisms that also inhabit the area. From California Sea Lions to Ochre Sea Stars, this rich habitat is one of the main aspects that sets the pier apart from other lands owned by Cal Poly. The possibilities are endless with this outdoor classroom and the underwater world it connects with.
