Contrary to what some individuals believe, waste that is generated on the dairy unit is completely recyclable. With the exception of household products, such as paper towels, syringes and other trash, the waste that is formed by the dairy stays on the dairy. The only items that are taken from the dairy are those items that are generated and used by humans. There are a few different types of waste located on the dairy, all of which are dealt with in a concise and environmentally conscience way.
The Cal Poly Dairy uses waste management practices that are not only legal, but are also in favor of the animals and people who work there. Without the practices that are used, the dairy would be an unhealthy place for both the cows and the workers. The principles used to eliminate waste have been used by other dairies and are in favor of the environmentally conscience individual. The dairy does not produce an excess amount of material, and it is successful in using technology to eliminate all types of excess waste.
