Hazardous Material

One type of waste produced on the dairy is Hazardous Material waste. Cows receive vaccinations and other antibiotics through the use of syringes and needles. This type of waste is disposed of through a red SHARPS container that is labeled with a hazardous waste logo. However, cows are not susceptible to diseases like humans are; a syringe that has been used to treat a cow is usually not a plausible way to transmit the disease to other animals or humans that come in contact with that piece of material. Still, the dairy practices safe and sanitary measures to dispose of these hazardous products due to the small but still apparent fact that some diseases treated can be transferable.
