Student Horses

All the horses that are kept permanently at the stables are owned by the Cal Poly Foundation. The foundation is also responsible for funding most operations at the Equine Center. The Equine Center is supported through revenue generated by the sale of horses, the breeding program, and stallion fees.

Various programs and enterprises cause the horse population to fluctuate each season. In the summer and fall quarters about 100 horses are at the Equine Unit. In the winter and spring quarters, the center houses as many as 200 horses. Students are also able to board and care for their own horses at the Equine Center.
