Spring
#1 is located halfway up Rockslide Ridge, toward the back of
the Poly Canyon Design Village, and is also classified as a
riparian community. Walking at a brisk pace, you can reach this
spring from the Brizziolari Creek rest
area in about 10 minutes. In this picture, the spring is
clearly visible about midway down the mountain, denoted by a
large dark tree and surrounding foliage. Can you see the drainage
path that the water takes down the mountain?
These
particular springs occur at the interface of two rock types,
serpentine and melange, since water can move through the fractures
in the serpentinite, but not through the melange. For more information
