Cal Poly Soil and Water Resources
Presented by Dr. Del Dingus

The Salinas soil forms on water deposited alluvium derived from sedimentary rocks. Note the large rocks scattered throughout the profile. Most of the flat areas around the Campus Market, and the Crops Unit are good locations to experience the Salinas soil. Included in the area mapped as Salinas will be small areas of Mocho, and Cropley soils. The Salinas soil is excellent for agriculture and often convenient for development. On campus it is our best soil (Land Capability Class I when irrigated).
