The ranch, including this old barn,
was built in 1906 and originally intended to be a dairy. Cal Poly
purchased the land containing these structures in the 1960s as
part of the school's continuing effort to expand the territory
the school possessed. This would in turn lead to a strengthening
of the "learn by doing" motto of Cal Poly by allowing
students to take a hands on role in ranch management.
