The evening of May 20, 2006, I set out to capture the sunset from the lawn of the Performing Arts Center (otherwise known as the PAC). The following are some of my images intertwined with reflections and a poem from this evening's spectacular sunset.
Goodbye Day
Like a submarine
The tangerine gleam
Goes under.
Under sky,
Under sea.
‘Neath the universe’s canopy,
Bidding adieu to me.
From blue to rouge
To indigo,
Moon penetrates;
Away the sun does go.
The allowance of a celestial show.
I began taking pictures from the front entrance of the PAC, nearest the parking lot. The clouds were amazing! They were very thick, like a blanket covering the Earth, yet still whispy. At the beginning of the sunset, the clouds glowed in soft pastels, hovering over the green hills. It created a picturesque landscape, and, luckily, I was able to capture some of it. I was worried it would not be a gorgeous sunset—the fog looked as though it would roll in—but nature proved me wrong! Once the sun had receded beneath the clouds, the orange glow pierced the atmosphere (as well as my eyes). The thick clouds hovering above imbued the sherbert hue of the sun. At last, with more grace and magnificence than I had anticipated, the sun fell below the Earth.
