The Cal Poly Equine Center will not be affected
by the animal unit relocations but is currently undergoing a
huge facelift. Plans for the Equine Center include a 40-stall
horse barn, a 13-stall mare barn and new and improved breeding
and learning facilities. May 2005 marked the completion of the
40-stall barn which currently houses mares brought in from outside
clients to be bred. The 13-stall barn is presently in the process
of being built and should be completed by the end of the June
2005.

the improvements
The breeding barn has been remodeled and now
contains four "stocks" used to hold mares being examined
for reproduction, a stallion collection room, a wet room for
semen analysis, and an office. These new facilities have made
it possible for students to become more involved with the breeding
practices and has provided a space for hands-on education. Also,
with the addition of a new breeding stallion, Smokum's Prize,
the center has been able to expand its services to the outside
community.

Construction on the new 13 stall
mare barn
New improvements at the Equine Center include
plans to build a new covered arena and another 40-stall barn.
This will allow for students on various enterprises, such as
the Ranch Horse and Quarter Horse enterprises to work and school
their horses in unfavorable weather.
