The
Field C-16 Restoration Project is currently the
subject of a Masters thesis. Supervising this project
is Dr. Brent Hallock, a Cal Poly Soil Science Department
professor, who specializes in Rangeland Management/Monitoring.
Because the details of this site are under revision,
consider the following plans as "proposed".
Proposed
restoration plans include:
·
Construction of a hay storage barn atop this concrete
slab (picture)
Below, observe the
concrete slab on the right of photo. This is the
proposed site for a new hay storage barn.
·
Range Seeding- the goal is to establish adapted
plants by seeding on native grazing land. (Range
does not include pasture and hayland planting.)
Increased erosion and sediment yield may occur during
the establishment of this practice. This is only
a temporary situation that will diminish once the
area becomes established.
· Grazingland Mechanical Treatments- In order
to assist establishment of the range seeding, mechanical
treatments are necessary. Renovating, contour furrowing,
pitting, or chiseling this site will improve plant
cover and water quality by aerating the soil, increasing,
infiltration and available moisture, reducing erosion,
and protecting low lying structures from siltation.
· Wildlife-Upland Habitat Management- Creating,
maintaining, or enhancing areas for food and cover
for upland wildlife.
