YUCCA WHIPPLEI

Yucca Whipplei - commonly known as Our Lords Candle, these plants can grow to be up to 20 feet tall. The ones found on the Poly Canyon trail only get to be about 10 feet. It has leaves all year, with the flowering times being from May to June. Yucca Whipplei are found on high up on dry slopes. They like the sunlight and soil that is easily drained. The scented hermaphrodite flowers are the cause for many peoples allergies here in the central coast, because they unique to this area. One thing to be aware of is the leaves, they are sharp tipped with fine toothed leaf edges, and hurt if you brush up against them.

 

The California Sage is a true sage, branching from the botanical genus of Salvia, unlike the majority of the sage family that depicts from the genus Artemisia. This sage has a very potent smell that is easily noticeable, as well as distinct. Of the 18 sages that are native to California , is has been of vital importance to animals such as bumblebees, wasps and hummingbirds. The Sierra Nevada Mountain range is where most sages thrive. Sages have the ability to live for over 30 years and have a high tolerance for droughts
