Moving
down the dirt beaten path, I cautiously noted to avoid bumping
into the three leafed, red tinged plant that has caused many
people blistering and irritation: Western
Poison Oak. Although mankind arrogantly assumes superiority
over nature, this plant proves man’s flawed “invincibility.”
Nature can impact humans, despite our efforts to domesticate
the wild. Animal trainers attempting to tame creatures have
surely been hurt, insects and pests have impacted agricultural
productivity, and the moving earth has ruined millions of beach-side
and hillside homes. I believe nature has a quiet power,
flaunted in the complexities of its own works (the animals and
plants) and the effects it has inflicted upon man’s eternal
struggle to control, rather work with nature.
