This
is a 20- to 82-foot evergreen monoecious tree. It can be extremely
long-lived (usually more than 250 years, even 600). It has 1
to 2 1/2-inch leathery, spiny-toothed, ovate, dull green leaves.
The upper surface of the leaves is convex. Blooms appear from
March through April.
