Rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri, Salmonidae) Rainbow trout can reach 33/4 feet long and about 42 pounds, but are much smaller in Brizzolara Creek. The rainbow trout is metallic blue above and silvery white below. It has small dark spots on its back and sides, as well as on its dorsal and anal fins. It has a red band along its sides. It has an adipose fin (a fleshy, flexible fin that has no support rays and is located posterior to the dorsal fin).

Speckled dace (Rhinichthys osculus, Cyprinidae) This fish reaches 4 inches long. The speckled dace is a long, rounded fish with a flattened belly. Its back is a dusky olive color. The sides are grayish green with a dark stripe and dark speckles or blotches. It has a small, ventral mouth with no teeth. It has barbels. Its eyes are small. The lateral line is complete. It has cycloid scales.

Mosquitofish (Gambustia affinis, Poeciliidae) Mosquitofish grow to 21/2 inches long. They are tan to olive-colored above, pale yellowish below. Their scales have dusky spots near the edges. They have a dark bar below their eyes. The dorsal and caudal fins are spotted. The mouth is small, with the lower jaw sticking out beyond the upper jaw. The teeth are small. Mosquitofish swim near the surface and takes its name from its food source: mosquito larvae.
