Both word have Greek roots. Both relate to the development of skills. Sometimes the word/title says it all!

Skill central in both words. According to the etymology technology should be central to polytechnic and it is at Poly.

Technology has different meaning today.

Also transportation has a totally different root than the greek word. The Greek word, like skill contain a “social” dimension – connecting to another society- which is not present in the English term.

A similar evolution can explain the technology message today which is more like the development of a device rather than a social function (training.)
