The Founding Act of Cal Poly School allocated $50,000 for the selection and purchase of a site, and the construction, furnishing, and maintenance of the buildings. The first parcel of land Cal Poly acquired was a 281 acre site offered by Dawson Lowe at the northern corner of city. By October 1903, the first school building was constructed and classes were underway.
