Hollister Ranch, originally part of Rancho San Luisito, was purchased by Joseph Hollister 1866. Later, he purchased large portion of Rancho El Chorro and amassed the boundaries. Hollister had come from Ohio in 1856 with many thoroughbred sheep, and soon became one of prominent ranchers in the county for his large operation of thousands of sheep. He later converted the ranch to beef and dairy cattle, and planted the more fertile valleys with orchards and crops. After Joseph Hollister’s death, the land was divided among his heirs who later sold.
