We Do Bees: BEE Alert!
According to the Texas A&M University Department of Entomology, there are many precautions one can take to prevent a run in with potentially dangerous bees.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS: Things to Remember

  • Listen for bees when outside, which may indicate a nearby nest.
  • If you do find a nest of bees, do not disturb them and walk away slowly.
  • When playing outdoor sports, always be aware of your surroundings,
  • Teach young kids to be very cautious of bees.
  • Before using outdoor power equipment, check for bees in nearby areas.
  • Wear clothing that will not attract bees when outdoors or deep in the wilderness. Generally, light-colored clothing tends not to attract bees.
  • Avoid wearing perfumes or colognes when hiking or working outside.

The best safety advice is to avoid an encounter with honey bees in the first place. Honey bees will only sting to protect themselves and their nest. It is very important to be on the look out for these colonies and leave them alone!
