George Hasslein

Founding Dean of the College of Architecture and Enviromental Design

and

the originator of the Poly Canyon Architectural Design Village

A life-size replica of George Hasslein sits on a bench in a little piece of Heaven created by his architecture students.

"coming to Cal Poly was like having the gates of Heaven open for me"

George Hasslein taught several generations of architecture students at Cal Poly. He began teaching in 1950, was instramental in establishing the College of Architecture and Environmental Design in 1968, and continued teaching until 2001. He demonstrated his devotion to teaching when he made the comment, "We should pay for the privilege of teaching".
