The
grassy areas and gardens surrounding the dorm areas offer an escape
for students. Sharing tiny rooms with one tiny window, enduring
endless blaring music, and constant noise are all part of a well-rounded
first year experience at Cal Poly. However, at times, it is nice
to have a place, where one can enjoy the beautiful surroundings
our campus has to offer. Cal Poly students go to these havens to
read, to catch up on on studying, or simply to relax and take some
time out from hectic schedules.

North Mountain and Trinity Lawn.
Landscaped walkways are an integral part of the pleasurable atmosphere.
These routes are strategically placed providing scenic paths to
main campus.
A frequent visitor of Trinity Lawn, second year Nutrition student
Daphne Early commented, " I just love to come out here between
classes and read. I take the time for myself to enjoy the serenity
of nature."
Retreat behind Sierra Madre
This nature area is a wonderful spot for a quiet
moment. Even though it is only a few paces away from the back
doors of the towers, this secluded setting offers an ideal place
for studying, for an intimate conversation, or simply for reflection.

Cerro
Vista Apartments
Since
they opened in Fall 2003, Cerro Vista Apartments have housed 800
sophomore students each year. Cerro Vista means "hill view"
in Spanish and truly does offer beautiful views looking down upon
campus and the surrounding peaks. The individual buildings are
named after sister peaks in San Luis Obispo. They are: Morro,
Cabrillo, Hollister, Romauldo, Bishop, and Islay. Though plant
life is young and sparce, over the next few years it will flourish,
providing more shade and ground cover, enhancing the the environment
and Cerro Vista community.
The
artificial wetland at the base of the apartment complex has attracted
wildlife including ducks, swallows, rabbits, and frogs. On any
given evening, one can hear the symphony of frogs croaking adding
to the evening atmosphere the landscape has to offer.
