Landscaping Senior Projects

(Building 52)

Students have used this quad area to demostrate what they have learned at this university, not only fulfilling a graduation requirement but adding aesthetic beauty and places to relax between classes. Over the years, the following projects have been constructed for your enjoyment:

Built in 1960s:

  • The Olive Tree Centerpiece planted by Class of 1960.

Built in 1970s:

  • The Cement Seating Bench behind the A wing of Building 52 was built by landscape architect, Greg Bergenor, as a Senior Project.
  • The Wooden Seating area behind the Olive Tree covered with Aleppo Pine Trees was a joint Senior Project for various construction management students. This particular area has been repaired a number of times and some of the trees were cut down due to diseases and never replaced.

Built in 1980s:

  • The postal kiosk across from the Sandwich Factory was built by architecture students.

Built in 1990s:

  • The Campus Master Plan Commitee looked to RRF, a local firm to build the circular ramp behind Science Building 52's E wing.
  • The Pocket of Paradise, dedicated to Rob Meyers, was built by a group of students and faculty commited to the remembrance of the former Recreation Administration Department Head.

What will become of this area?

Although there are plans to tear down the existing Science building and replace it with a six story building including state-of-the-art laboratories, the new courtyard will be twice the size of Dexter Lawn and will present more opportunities for future senior projects to be built. Will your project become the centerpiece of this courtyard?
