The birth of this company, Mission Produce, came about because of an apparent need to serve the under-assisted avocado packing market. In 1983 Mission Produce embarked on this journey of packing and distributing California avocados.

Another division of the company is based out of Mexico, and they export avocados to Europe, Canada, Japan and the United States all year long.Along with another company, they formed Simmisco Foods in 1990 to expand their services beyond avocado packaging. This corporation sells a variety of avocado products, namely frozen guacamole.

Among its many successes, Mission Produce was the first to put a PLU sticker system into practice, has gained food service contracts worldwide, and is the leader in the industry.
