In August of 2002 Cal Poly's College of Agriculture joined with Mission Produce's CEO, Steve Bernard, a Cal Poly College of Agriculture Alumnus, in a partnership wich gave approximately 50 acres of Cal Poly land to the growing of Mission Produce avocados. Mission produce is an avocado and avocado products company based in Southern California and with annual sales averaging around $100 million. The Cal Poly field preparation began on August 13th and was ready for planting in May of 2003.
