Degree Requirements
College of Agriculture
Viticulture Minor

As of 1998, Dr. Keith Patterson has been striving to expand the Cal Poly Grape and Wine program. Through programs like vines to wines and central coast vineyard club exchanges, Dr Patterson has watched Cal Poly’s viticulture program advance exponentially.
The next step in Poly’s expansion will be the implementation of a Wine and Viticulture major. This program will be one of the most extensive in the state and may soon place Cal Poly at the forefront of wine education.
The program will require 180 academic units leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Click this link to view the Degree Requirements.
Dr. Patterson will be the first head of the Wine and Viticulture Department. He has high hopes for the revolutionary concentration and predicts that it will be “an instant success.” The driving idea behind the implementation of the major is that it will greatly complement Cal Poly’s premiere College of Agriculture. Students will be offered a variety of “learn by doing” courses – each designed to provide experience and first hand knowledge that other institutions can not. The major is expected to be officially added during the 2004 academic year.
