Dairy Unit

There are two distinct sections that encompass the dairy unit on Cal Poly's campus. The first is The Dairy Cattle Instructional Center, including animal husbandry, breeding, and milking. Cal Poly has a state of the art milking parlor as well as instructional classrooms, and microbiology and nutrition labs. The facilities were finished here in 1992.

The second part of the dairy unit is the Dairy Products Technology Center. Funded mostly from private research grants, this center employs scientists from several fields and allows students to be involoved in the most up-to-date food science reseach. Here, they produce and study cheese and ice cream for elemental properties as well as saftey. This $7.5 million dollar building was completed in 1996.
